Best Darn Jazz Club in Danbury at WCSU

DANBURY, CONN. — Western Connecticut State University will host the “Best Darn Jazz Club in Danbury” at 8 p.m. on Friday, April 13, 2018, in the Colonial Corner in the Student Center on the university’s Midtown campus, 181 White St. in Danbury. The opening act will be the Nathan Edwards Quintet and the featured act will be the Rosemary Minkler Trio.  Admission will be free and open to the public. Donations will be accepted at the door.

The Nathan Edwards Quintet will feature WestConn students Nathan Edwards on the saxophone, Nick Morcaldi on the drums, Joseph Conticello on the piano and Austin Schmidt on the trumpet. Peter Blake will play bass.

The Rosemary Minkler Trio presents the music of Thelonious Monk for this performance. Led by alumna Rosemary Minkler, the trio features Minkler as pianist and composer, alumnus Jeff Moro on bass and Eric Hallenbeck on drums. Their most recent release, “Prospectus,” is Minkler’s debut as a bandleader, pianist, composer and audio engineer. The trio has played in Connecticut and New York and continues to explore and expand its repertoire. The music of Thelonious Monk has served as a great influence and inspiration to Minkler, both as a pianist and composer.

There will be free food and drinks available in addition to a cash bar for attendees 21 and older with a valid ID.

“Best Darn Jazz Club” performances will continue in the fall semester.
