Judith Smith holds degrees from the Eastman School of Music and East Carolina University. Her teachers include: Ronald Leonard, Maurice Eisenberg and Nathan Stutch. In addition to teaching cello and string methods at Western, Mrs. Smith is a string teacher in the Danbury Public Schools. She is the orchestra director at Danbury High School, Broadview Middle School and two elementary schools. She performs regularly at WCSU in both recitals and with the school orchestra. In the fall of 1999 she was the soloist in a performance of Boccherinniÿs concerto for Cello and Orchestra with the WCSU Orchestra.

She is a former member of the Ridgefield, Bridgeport and Hudson Valley symphony orchestras and currently she performs with several chamber music ensembles.
