Lesa Jacobsen
Assistant Professor of Music, Applied Voice, Choral Ensembles, Student Teacher Supervision, Music Education Courses
Dr. Jacobsen holds a Bachelor of Arts in music education from Luther College, a Master of Music in voice performance from the University of Houston, and a Doctor of Musical Arts in music education and choral conducting from the University of Oregon. She has extensive teaching experience in voice, music education, and choral music in both public schools and the university setting.
Her choral background is built on her experience singing with The Nordic Choir under Weston Noble at Luther College. She went on to sing in the Houston Symphony Chorus and became a professional chorister and soloist in the Concert Chorale of Houston, Cantari Singers of Columbus, and the Oregon Bach Festival Choir. Dr. Jacobsen was a church soloist for seven years with the St. Paul's Choir of Houston, TX and as a part of that choir, soloed and sang Evensong services at Westminster Abbey in London, England. She has also been a chorister and soloist in synagogues in Houston, TX and Columbus, OH. Dr. Jacobsen has worked with some of the finest choral directors in the country including Weston Noble, Maurice Casey, Richard Westenburg, Thomas Dunn, Michael Korn, Gregg Smith, Paul Salamunovich, John Scott, and Robert Brewer. She has also worked under Stephen Cleobury, Kings College, Cambridge, Eric Ericson, and Helmuth Rilling.
Dr. Jacobsen's vocal experience includes opera, oratorio, and recitals. Her research interests include vocal and choral pedagogy and the use of verbal imagery in instructing students in voice production in both settings, and English choral music and the choir schools of England, Scotland, and Wales. Dr. Jacobsen received a grant to study the choir schools of England and Scotland in 2003.
