Vice President for

Institutional Advancement

Western Connecticut State University invites nominations and applications for the position of Vice President for Institutional Advancement. Reporting to the President, the Vice President is responsible for the leadership and management of all fundraising activities including annual giving, major gifts, donor relations, board/foundation relations, and alumni relations. The Vice President is a member of the President’s senior leadership team, plays a key role in institutional planning, and works directly with the President and academic leadership to solicit financial support for the strategic priorities of WCSU.

The Vice President will oversee development, alumni affairs and university relations, build and lead a dynamic team, and will develop a strong infrastructure for annual and capital campaigns.  Additionally, the Vice President will be responsible for establishing strong relationships with the University Foundation Board and key constituents, strengthening ties with the local community, working effectively with government and business representatives, and enhancing alumni relations. The successful candidate will set the vision and strategic direction for programs that seek to involve alumni and friends in advancing the fundraising priorities of the University. He/she will work closely with the President and the WCSU Foundation in planning and implementing programs to advance the University. This position supervises approximately 15 administrative and support staff. Local and out of state travel is required.

Qualifications: Demonstrated ability to manage a multi-function organization in fund raising, alumni relations, public relations, and promotion is required.  Demonstrated ability to effectively manage professional, managerial and support staff and to apply sound principles of human resource management is required.  Demonstrated ability to manage funds, budgets, property and other assets with integrity and accountability is required. Direct experience in the design, planning, management, and leadership of a capital campaign is required. Previous experience in leading, building, and managing a volunteer Foundation Board of Directors is required. These skills and abilities would be acquired through a combination of experience and training which includes advanced university education preferably in a related field, together with a total of not less than ten years of managerial experience in fund raising, public affairs and association management. Experience in public higher education institutions, is preferred as is experience working with a “hands-on” office culture. Fundraising experience in the Northeast/New England region is also preferred.
