Western Connecticut
State University’s School of Professional Studies seeks an innovative
and experienced leader to chair the Department of Education and
Educational Psychology (E&EP). The Department Chair will encourage and
support inter-disciplinary initiatives that maintain and expand
successful and nationally accredited programs ranging from a bachelor’s
degree through a doctorate.
The Department of
Education & Educational Psychology offers
a NCATE accredited Bachelor’s Degree (BS) in Elementary and Secondary
Education; Master’s (M.S.) options in Curriculum Leadership,
Instructional Technology, Reading and Special Education; ABA
certificates in Autism Spectrum; Masters of Teaching (M.A.T.) in
Secondary Mathematics, Science and Spanish; M.S. in Clinical Mental
Health and School Counseling (CACREP accredited); and an Ed.D. in
Instructional Leadership in Education. Courses are offered in classroom,
hybrid and fully online formats. The department has 16 fulltime and
approximately 10 adjunct faculty members.
The Department Chair is
responsible for the leadership and administration of the department
including degree/certificate programs, academic advisement, the
coordination and quality of instruction, workload assignments, faculty
review, course scheduling, accreditation standards and reports,
expenditure of department funds, equipment and supply maintenance,
supervision of support staff and adjuncts, facilitating faculty service
to the community and university and professional development. This is a
12-month faculty position, with the Chair reporting to the Dean of the
School of Professional Studies.
Minimum
Qualifications: A doctoral degree
from an accredited university with a specialty in one of the teaching
areas represented in the department; A record of scholarship and
successful college teaching that merits appointment as tenure track
faculty (rank open) in an area represented within the department;
Administrative experience leading an academic unit; Full time
administrative and teaching experience in PK-12 public schools;
Experience teaching university level education courses; Evidence of
meeting the educational needs of diverse populations; Competence in
Instructional Technology; and experience with NCATE accreditation and
collaboration with a state department of education. Preference will be
given to candidates who have experience in a university shared
governance model; coordinated interdisciplinary research, teaching and
outreach activities; prepared program assessment and accreditation;
participated in faculty governance, mentoring, and development; and
secured external funding

Rank and salary are dependent
