At 8 p.m. in the Ives Concert Hall, Midtown campus, 181 White St., Fabien Cousteau will speak about what’s happening to our oceans. Tickets are $10. VIP sponsorships are available for $50 and include a reception with Cousteau. Tickets will be available at the door and can be purchased by calling the ticket office at (837-TIXX (8499). We are going to the United Nations for the International Day of Peace. Our Roots and Shoots students will be going with us and meeting Jane Goodall and JGI staffer Shawn Sweeney.
Ryan Harb is speaking to us again about starting a permaculture garden on campus. Ryan is a certified permaculture designer and LEED Accredited Professional, who received his BBA in Business Management and his M.S. in Green Building from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
We have picked out the site, we have use of the greenhouse, our administration approves, and we are on our way to creating a community garden. Our Roots and Shoots students are very enthusiastic about this event. You all are invited to this event too and it’s free! Ryan is speaking in Warner Hall at 1:30 p.m. (1:30-2:30 with questions and answers afterwards).
Mr. Dru Bacon (Chemical Engineer and solar specialist, formerly of Arizona Smart Power from Phoenix) will be returning to Western to discuss alternative energies like solar and why we need to move away from fossil fuels NOW. He will be giving a public talk and visiting some of our classes to enlighten our students.
