Educational futurist to address WCSU Class of 2014 Writer Anya Kamenetz recognized for insights into change, technology
Anya Kamenetz is nothing short of visionary when it comes to today’s students and their academic quests.
The author, educational futurist, syndicated columnist and contributing writer for Fast Company magazine will deliver the keynote address at Western Connecticut State University’s 116th undergraduate commencement on Sunday, May 11, beginning at 10:30 a.m. on the Westside Practice Field on the university’s Westside campus, 43 Lake Ave. Extension in Danbury.
Originally from New Orleans, the Yale College graduate is considered an expert on learning and technology. Her first book, “Generation Debt: Why Now is a Terrible Time to be Young,” was published in 2006 and earned her appearances on shows such as “Larry King Live” and “The View.”
Her 2011 ebook “The Edupunks’ Guide” was funded by the Gates Foundation. In 2010, Kamenetz was named a 2010 Game Changer in Education by the Huffington Post, received National Awards for Education Reporting from the Education Writers Association in 2009 and 2010, and was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in feature writing by the Village Voice in 2005.
Kamenetz is a Schwartz Fellow at the New America Foundation and is currently working on her next book, “The Test” about standardized testing. She lives in Brooklyn, N.Y., with her husband and daughter.
