Amy Crupi was accepted into her college of choice in Boston, Mass., but not until the spring semester of her freshman year. She had a decision to make:  she could wait and start a half-year later than most of her peers, or take classes in the fall so she wouldn't always be a semester behind. She decided to take her fall classes at WestConn.

"I was actually planning on transferring schools half-way through my freshman year at WestConn to attend Northeastern University to study the music industry," Crupi says. "I had been accepted to start in the spring at Northeastern and decided to start at WCSU right away so that I wouldn't fall behind. When the time came to transfer, I didn't find it realistic to pay almost five times as much a semester when I was getting the same quality education right here at WCSU. It was a wise decision, and I'm thankful it turned out as well as it did."

Crupi says she has always been drawn to two areas in her studies: theatre arts/entertainment and business. "When I was into my junior year, the theatre program came out with the Theatre Arts Management option, and it fit me perfectly," she says. "I get to combine my creative skills and love for the arts with my love for number crunching and the business mentality."

Asked what s he will remember most about her WestConn experience, Crupi says, “My most memorable experience happened out of the country. The theatre department was given the opportunity to perform "Romeo and Juliet" at the Edinburgh Festival in Scotland last year. I was fortunate enough to go and perform on a foreign stage and on foreign streets for an entire month. The best part about the trip was that my work as a performer was appreciated by people coming from different cultures and areas of the world. I had done some public relations work as well and was able to sing over the radio a few times. To have my voice heard throughout the hills of Scotland and all around the world is an experience I will carry with me the rest of my life. I am so grateful to have been given that opportunity!”

After graduation, Crupi’s plans include taking the time to reflect. "I believe that we were meant to take life one day at a time. Tomorrow is never a guarantee. I have a general direction I would like to go with my life, however I am leaving it up to God to make that choice for me. I see myself working hard after graduation: traveling, performing on a stage/film, experiencing, learning, loving and living."

Crupi’s advice to new students entering WCSU is: “The best advice I can leave to an incoming freshman is take advantage of every opportunity you're given. You never know what you might get out of that elective class you took just for fun. If you ever get the chance to travel through the school, do it. Do it while you're young and have the time. And if you ever have any questions, don't be afraid to ask. There will always be someone to point you in the right direction to find the answer you're looking for.
