Guido Tino Memorial Scholarship

Guido Tino was enthusiastic and passionate, a man who celebrated life — and a man who will be missed and never forgotten. We invite you to celebrate Guido’s life with a contribution to a scholarship established in his name at Western Connecticut State University.

As you may know, Guido supported many organizations. He was very active at WestConn, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in 1964 and decided to dedicate himself to a career in teaching. Whether in the classroom or on the soccer field, Guido was devoted to his students and taught them to be passionate in the things they pursued. He was an involved alumnus and was the driving force behind an endowed scholarship for another alum and lifelong schoolteacher.

By establishing a scholarship in Guido’s name, we hope to reflect his energy and compassion. This scholarship, named the Guido Tino Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund, has the full endorsement of Guido’s wife Kristine, and will help students who share a passion for teaching, community involvement and a love for WestConn.

Like many students, Guido found a home at WestConn. When he entered the college in 1960, then called Danbury State Teacher’s College, he had already served in the Armed Forces and was older than most of his classmates. He very quickly demonstrated those leadership characteristics that he carried with him the rest of his life.

Guido was also adventurous. He had never played soccer, but went out for the team anyway and played well in competition. As we all know, he devoted himself to the sport, later serving as a referee and coach. He also founded a youth soccer club in his adopted hometown of Sherman, Conn. And that is how he approached teaching, too. When he taught in New Fairfield and Danbury, parents fought to get their children into his classes.

Please help us honor the life of this great man — a teacher, coach, philanthropist and, most of all, friend. You can donate to the Guido Tino Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund online or by calling the Office of Institutional Advancement at (203) 837-8279. Donations can also be made by check made payable to the WCSU Foundation/Guido Tino Memorial Scholarship and mailed to the WCSU Foundation, 181 White St., Danbury, CT 06810.

Please consider making a contribution to the Guido Tino Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund so that he can continue to help students fulfill their educational dreams for generations to come. We cannot think of a better way to keep Guido’s legacy alive. We appreciate your support.
