General Education Requirements

Courses which satisfy general education requirements are noted here. Independent studies, student developed studies, internships, practicums, etc. may not be used to meet general education requirements unless specifically approved by the department that offers them.

Variations
Many departments prescribe some specific general education courses in addition to required major courses. Students selecting courses to fulfill general education requirements in a program should check the requirements of their chosen major to determine which general education courses must be taken.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS: (6 Semester Hours)

(Both of the following are required)

  • A Writing Intensive Course:

    A number of courses fulfill the general education intensive writing requirement, and can be found under various  subject areas.  These courses are designated with a “W” after the course number. While all courses with a designated “W” will fulfill the writing intensive requirement, some “W” courses will also fulfill a Humanities or Social and Behavioral Science requirement.
