Faculty Biographical Sketches
Marjorie P. Steinberg, Department of Social Work
Ms. Marjorie P. Steinberg, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Social Work and past Chair. She began her teaching at WestConn in 1992 as Field Coordinator and classroom instructor for the Department of Social Work. Ms. Steinberg holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Mt. Holyoke College, and a master’s degree in Social Work with clinical practice concentration, from Fordham University School of Social Service. Ms. Steinberg is a doctoral candidate at New York University in Higher Education Administration. Prior to teaching at WestConn, she served on the faculty at CUNY’s Lehman College, Westchester Community College, Adelphi University School of Social Work and Columbia University School of Social Work.
Ms. Steinberg’s University level activities have included being the first Director of the University’s Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching, and serving on Faculty Senate Committees for Faculty Development and Recognition, Promotion and Tenure, Assessment, and Admissions.
She has been in direct practice in mental health and youth services, taught social work and family studies courses at the undergraduate level, and has been a field coordinator and advisor for graduate social work programs. She holds active leadership positions with the National Association of Social Workers, with particular focus on continuing education, ethics, and organizational issues. She also volunteers on several community based organizations and advisory boards in family service and victim advocacy roles (e.g., Catholic Charities, Parents of Murdered Children, NY State Board of Directors, Victims Assistance Services). Ms. Steinberg received the 2003 Social Worker of the Year Award from Westchester Division of NASW/NY.
